As soon as we enter 2020, film buffs everywhere will start looking forward to the next edition of Academy Awards. With the pinnacle event of the movie world only around three months away, who do you think are frontrunners in the best picture, actor and actress categories?
If you’d like to, you could go through a quick snapshot of how bookies are perceiving the situation vis-à-vis these categories right now, as well as what opinions outsiders and insiders of the film world have started forming. There are several reputed bookmakers out there which can help you add more excitement to your Academy Awards night by allowing you to bet on various possibilities.
Overall outlook
Going by the odds offered by various bookies right now, it’s the Disney and Pixar remakes which have odds heavily stacked against them. Classic remakes like ‘The Lion King’, ‘Captain Marvel’ and ‘Toy Story’ don’t appear anywhere at the top of the listings. However, it’s important to mention here that ‘Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker’ is expected to have a big impact on all such rankings. Regardless, several betting portals have placed blockbusters like ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’ and ‘The Irishman’ fairly high right now. These rankings are also expected to impact other categories such as Oscars for leading actor and actress.
Best Film
It always bears very well for a film if it is talked about in multiple categories, and that’s exactly the case with ‘Marriage Story’, the American comedy-drama which is ranked 2nd in many lists right now. Both Scarlett Johansson and Adam driver are being hailed for their amazing performances, and the Netflix movie is already being discussed as the winner of the best picture award this time.
Others are of the opinion that ‘The Irishman’ will beat the American comedy-drama to the title. Likewise, Robert De Niro, the lead actor of that film is a hot contender in the Best actor category. It’s starting to look like a neck-to-neck battle for the ultimate prize between Noah Baumbach’s ‘Marriage Story’ and ‘The Irishman’. Other movies that are expected to give these two a good fight include Todd Phillips’ ‘Joker’, Taika Waititi’s ‘Jojo Rabbit’ and Quentin Tarantino’s ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’.
Best Actor
As suggested earlier, the award for the best actor in the leading role ‘male’ is strongly influenced by the movies fighting it out in the best picture category. Joaquin Phoenix is being talked about as the top contender in this category, followed by ‘Marriage Story’s’ Adam Driver, ‘The Irishman’s’ Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio from ‘Once Upon a Time in Hollywood’.
Best Actress
Quite surprisingly, movies contesting in the Best picture category don’t seem to have much influence here this time. Renee Zellweger is leading the pack for her role in Judy Garland’s biopic titled ‘Judy’. Cynthia Erivo is in second place for her role in another biopic titled ‘Harriet’. Scarlett Johansson takes the third spot for her performance in ‘Marriage Story’, followed by Saoirse Ronan who has been widely acclaimed for her portrayal of ‘Jo’ March in another Hollywood blockbuster ‘Little Women’.

In my opinion, these awards have long started to matter, often they are full of films that they do not deserve and the prize can be political than for a good film.
I think that the latest decisions by Hollywood on the conditions for the Oscar award, which will begin in 2024, will actually lead to the decline, not the development of the film industry as a whole. Minorities can and should be respected, not in this way.
And the best thing I think is online games. Especially nowadays, without leaving your home, you can feel like a player in Las Vegas.
