After some thoughts I’ve got idea what should be really cool. Cool should be, if some DirectShow filter, codec or whatever should support downloading and uploading subtitles from our server – just like SubDownloader or Oscar do.  I did some small research and I declined two opensource projects – VSfilter (VobSub) – it seems discountinued, it seems Gabest has other work to do, there was long no new release. I also know G400 filter, but it is even older. Then I remembered good old ffdshow by Milan Cutka, he stops this project too, but clever people knows, it still continues under other name (they did fork, and now it is called ffdshow-tryout). So after some hesitating I decided write some comments and make a small poll to their forum with this idea. Speaking of modules, XBMC already has a routine to download subtitles from SubDivX in a script in the more recent SVN. Can’t a script for opensubtitles be done as well?

Eduo, I checked and installed XBMC-SVN_2007-10-07_rev10457-T3CH.rar – can you tell me where is SubDivX ? I cannot find that anywhere, so please navigate me via menu.
Apparently ffdshow-tryouts don’t want to add it because “downloading subtitles needs to be done by the player, not the decoder”, which is funny because ffdshow is already much more than a decoder. Why can’t they see OSDB as just another “folder” to search for subtitles?
But what about VLC? I don’t use it (except for movies that won’t play over DirectShow) because I hate the GUI, but I know many people use it, especially on Linux.
For ffdshow – I don’t know – I really don’t. I expected, they confirm this is brilliant idea, how to spread their codec, I don’t think it is too difficult implement this feature. With this, many users will forget to website, complications with subtitle downloading…OSDB protocol is open…I don’t know, maybe after some time they will make cllever decision, but not now…

hm, I just saw, they locked topic on ffdshow forum. CLSID is one of the coder of ffdshow I guess. Maybe he should write why “This won’t be added to ffdshow.” He have for sure too much work, but sometimes is good think a little more, or write clearly why…so we have to develop tools ourselves.
VLC ticket: “Opened 11 months ago” Oh I see… shit. I don’t know about the inner workings of VLC, but maybe someone could submit a patch to speed things up?

patch to VLC – first of all, it must be coded by someone, it seems no one is interested for now…or maybe they just don’t know….
